Steve on "Low End VPS Provider For Torrenting?"

Most providers won't allow this, since torrenting is usually used for illegal files. If you're wanting to download warez, you'll have to go for something 'offshore', which will cost quite a bit more than a standard 'onshore' VPS. Even still, some offshore VPS providers might not allow torrents, since they rape hard drives.

Anyway, check out HostRail's offshore VPS services: https://hostrail.com/offshorevps.php. You'll have to email them and ask if torrents are allowed.

Aren't we all?

I have a VPS with buyVM - however, like many lowendboxes, they are merely purchasing from another host which leads to things like the power outage a couple days ago when BuyVM wasn't notified about some work their host was doing.

So, are their any lowendbox hosts that have been around for a while, own their own data centers, or anything else that would put them in the more reliable category even if they cost a little more or perform worse?

I'm thinking about moving some important projects to linode even though it's more per-month than I pay all year.

@All: We’re sorry, today happened a big script mistake. We’ve lost 19 VPS, which are also deleted from backup. In the future VPS will be kept in backup for 7 days after deletion. This happened only for the IPv6 VPS, they’re on complete different infrastructure than our other services – no other services are affected.

Stats: 12% of the ordered VPS have at least one login within 7 days after setup.

inotify() is a linux system call for watching for changes

(and the inotify-tools package has some useful command line utils
e.g. try this "inotifywait -m /tmp/" and in another shell try writing to something in /tmo)

The "lsyncd" project is a synchronisation daemon (like rsync) that relies on inotify to know what changes are made
